Overview

The Purpose of the Board is to advise and support the Select Board and Natural Resource Office in the long-term planning and management of the town's coastal zone areas and waterways with special emphasis on Vineyard Haven Harbor, Lagoon Pond, and Lake Tashmoo. The Committee shall advise the Select Board and Natural Resources Office on matters as follows.

  • Review and recommendation of rules, regulations, and policies affecting the public and private use of town harbors, ponds, and waterways.
  • Review and recommendation of rules, regulations, and policies affecting the protection, sustainability, propagation, and harvesting of
  • shellfish and finfish in town water.
  • Review and recommendation of policies necessary to maintain public and private access to town waterways including maintenance and dredging.
  • Review and recommendation of requests/applications to utilize town resources for marine and commercial purposes.
  • Work with town officials for the benefit of the Town's natural resources and long-term goals.
  • Support Harbormaster and Shellfish Constable. The committee shall facilitate the coordination of efforts with other town officials.
  • The committee shall identify and pursue grant opportunities.
  • The committee shall receive comments and suggestions from the public, hold public meetings/hearings as appropriate, post agendas,
  • publish minutes of their proceedings, and file an Annual Report.
  • The committee members shall comply with the Select Board Policies for Commissions, Committees, and Task Forces.
